One of the things that you would have to make certain when you do metal detecting would be to find the most appropriate spots. Such areas are said to be those that are most often visited by almost every other metal detector like you on regular basis. Some places that may possibly be good places to start would be at the beach or at a certain public park. If it would be convenient for you, you may try metal detecting in areas wherein people are no longer frequenting. By doing so, you would surely be able to find different kinds of items which may have already been left there for decades. People who have already developed their passion for this activity most often go to places that are considered to be historical and by so doing they get to appreciate even more the different ancient or old items that you get to see. However, you have to verify if the area where you would be going is open to anyone who intends to look for metals.

Learning to utilize a certain kind of device for metal detecting would also be an advantage because through it, you would be able to increase the chance of looking for some objects with the use of such device. However, you should always be cautious when you hold the device’s coil because if you are going to hold it very high, then immediately it can be noticed that ground depth would be lost. As a result of this, it is also possible that you will miss the objects underneath such device if it would not be properly utilized. An example of this would be when you swing the detector swiftly which will then result to you losing the possible target that you actually have.

Always keep in mind that when you hold unto the coil of your detector, it should be held almost near the ground because if for instance you are going to try and detect metals in an area where there are a lot of tall grasses, then you may assume that such detector is approximately three or four inches away from the floor. But if you would try to look for metal objects on the beach, which has flooring that is flat and smooth, it would then be very manageable for anyone to skim the detector’s coil above the sand. This would go to show that if you held the detector’s coil very high, then you would immediately lose approximately half of the coil’s depth. Do not forget that holding the detector properly beneath the area where you are looking for should always be done so that it would be able to work accurately. Also, bringing with you very limited items would be more appropriate. If you are going to bring with you a bag or even a small pouch, that would also be a good idea because bringing so many things during your treasure hunting would be inconvenient and will make you tired easily.
